Racing for the last 15 years
Raced at Mondello , Phoenix Park and Kirkistown in Golf Mk1,Fiat Ritmo,Stryker ,Lotus Cortina Mk 1,MGB Roadster, but wanted to race in the UK and places like Spa ,Joined Top Hat 9 years ago bought an Alfa Giulia Sprint GT from series owner Julius Thurgood and met his race preparer Rae Davis and went UK racing in the Top Hat pre ' 63' Touring Car Saloon Races.Practise 1/2 hour with hour long races ,just what the doctor ordered.
Have raced at all UK circuits, from Knockhill to Lydden Hill bar 2 circuits Cadwell Park and Croft , not only with Top Hat but with Global GT Lights as well . Raced at Spa not only in the Top Hat races but also in the 6 Hour Race there in an Austin Healey 1300 cc with another customers of Rae's and we won the class.Bought an Austin A40 in 2001 for the newly formed Oldies but Goldie's series -pre '59 saloon cars and have had many class wins .As well as UK and Spa also raced at Chimay, Pau,Dijon,Montlhery {outside Paris} on the banked track, that was some track !! now closed ,French Military have taken over the entire site .
In 2004 bought a Lotus Cortina Mark 1 , it was spare car for Gerry Marshall when he won the British Touring Car Championship years ago ,for 2 reasons 1- Top Hat was moving towards Appendix K cars only so the Alfa had to go as it originally was a 1300 cc and I was racing it with a 2000cc engine in the big class but as it was non original it had to go ,and I knew Gerry Marshall as he also raced in the Top Hat and when he heard I was thinking about buying the Lotus he said to buy it if I could , as it was such a fantastic car and he would drive it with me in Top Hat meetings, sadly events overtook us and the man died prior to having a race in the Lotus.
Lucky enough to be invited to the Goodwood Revival Meeting in 2002, that was the first year that the pre '59 saloons featured in the St Mary's Trophy Race , have been invited there 5 times , what an incredible meeting , classic car nuts dream, if you have never been GO !!

2007 Fordwater Trophy MiniJem Ivor Miller finished 18th {well I did have a monumental spin !!}

Selling the Lotus Cortina and the MiniJem , both advertised in last months Octane Magazine, the Austin A 40 has been sold and an Austin A35 is currently being built and I still have the Global GT Light well you do have to try to cut back when you retire DON'T YOU !! |
