Leinster Trophy Weekend

Saturday Boat Race Report

Well it certainly seemed like a boat race to me.

Qualifying was a wet track with no rain but very slippy on the international track when the weather is bad in mondello its miserable and it was a miserable morning.

Alan qualified in pole with a time of 1.54.558

John Cardoo in the little mini 2nd with a time of 2.01.669.

Bernard Foley taking up the 3rd place with a time of 2.01.906

Billy Crosbie 4th just one second behind

Now it’s time for the first boat/car race and there is an old saying unless you are the lead mule in a mule train every view looks the same and from where I was on the grid all I could see was water.

From what I saw everybody was having a hard time keeping it on the black stuff except

Wolfgang  who was absolutely  on the money.

Vinny and myself swapped places and waltzed around about four times .

The results of the first race .

Tommy Doherty . 1st . Alan Kessey 2nd and John Cardoo 3rd

With Wolfgang coming in 6th place

Reports from other drivers was it was not a nice race to be in .

I cant give any report on the Barbeque on Saturday night as I had a previous engagement.

Sunday morning 7.30am and the weather looks a whole lot better and there seemed to be a bit of atmosphere around the paddock ,but still a bit subdued for a leinster trophy weekendy

I done a few interviews around the paddock and a lady we met in kirkiston called Delma took some nice photos they will be posted on the web shortly.

Race 2 Historic Race is what racing is all about. Lots of activity going on all around the track.

The four midgets and the Cortina were having great fun swopping places Wolfgang and myself had a great race with Ken and Dave going two a breast around the track for most of the race. Car no 42 Matt Dunne drove a great race in spite of the fact he was carrying an old war wound well done Matt its people like you are the back bone of the HRCA. The results of the second race 1st place Alan Kessie 2nd place Billy Crosbie and 3rd place Bernard Foley in spite of the extra weight of chemical metal in his rad. Check the web for all the results.

In the afternoon we had the 3rd race for the David Byers Trophy and a big THANK YOU to Alan Kessie for having the foresight to organise such a great event also thanks to the coc Mark Kelly and Dominic Peel for organising the handicap for the grid. Don’t ask me how it was done but they got it spot on as I came in second. Billy Crosbie won the race and Dave Maloney was in 3rd place. I would like to express our thanks on behalf of the HRCA  to the Ann Byers and family for coming down to present the prizes this was very much appreciated.

Well  folks we have come to the end of the racing season but in spite of the hard times the HRCA still has one of the largest grids at Mondello thanks to you the  members.

Don’t forget the AGM is on Monday the 3rd of October 2011 in the RIAC in Dawson Street.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

P.S. If you know anyone out there that has 1300 racing midgets locked away in a garage encourage them to take them out and tuned up for the coming season.

All the best and thank you for your support.

Regards Liam.
