Kirkstown Race Report 27th August 2011

The only problem with Kirkstown is where it is. Leaving home at 4.30am and arriving at 7.30am to find most of the paddock still asleep. How it has changed in three years nice new buildings new pit garages above the level of the ground with air lines included. They also have new wash room facilities with a special mechanic wash room. Everyone very friendly including the scrutineers also the people testing for the noise levels were very nice. I found it very strange when the scrutineer asked me was I running negative camber.

I went off thinking to myself this must be new as I was never asked that question before. When I came back to the trailer I mentioned what he had said to me to Johnny Flynn and he taught it was very funny he said he asked you were you running a video camera. (Think I may need a hearing test)

Qualifying for the historics was at 10.00am and I found some small changes to the track since the last time I drove it but still a lovely fast track to drive on.

The first race saw a few casualties Clive Brandon Pamela Cochrane Pete Murray Ed Cassidy and myself we all seemed to develop some problems. Alan Kessie was in fine form in the Gryphon it was on the money all day. The results of the first race are posted on the website along with some footage. I had some memory left on the camera so I took some footage myself down at the ss. It was amazing to watch the race down there seeing John Cardoo in the mini on two wheels every time and Wolfgang throwing the midget around like a toy car. Listening to the conversations going on around me it seemed like a lot of people just came to see the Irish Historics. Well done to you all you put on a great show.

Just two laps from the end of the race there was an incident at the last corner between the Tiger of Jackie Cochrane and the Gryphon of Alan Kessie. This went to the COC for ruling and the race was brought back one lap and awarded to Alan Kessie. You will find all the results on the website.

Looking forward now to the Leinster Trophy on the 17th and 18th September 2011.

We will all have to finish of the season on a high.

Regards Liam
