HRCA Race Report For Sunday 15th May 2011
What a line up we had for the grid for our second set of two races for the season.
We had nineteen cars on the grid including MGB MGBV8 Midgets Mini Escorts BMW Lotus Sumbeam Tiger Gryphon Porches to name but a few (in case I left anything out)
These races were on the International Track. The day started with the usual wind and rain which made qualifying a little wet and slippy. I adjusted my shocks and tyre pressure I went out with great intentions only to develop an oil leak and once the oil touched the manifold the old midget filled with smoke. There were various reports of smoke clouds rising around the track.
Alan Kessie in his Gryphon was on pole for the race. Although the agenda for the day was held up a little with the weather we made up time along the way. Our first race started just after midday. Wont say to much about this race as you can have a look at some footage on the web. Reports from the pits say it was a good race considering the conditions. I had to retire from the race with my oil problem. You can check the results on the web.
Thanks to Alan Kessie for his help in supplying me with a rocker cover gasket.
Our second race got started about 4.30 again you can see some footage on the web. The rain held off only for the first few laps. There were many good dices in all classes but with the rain there were some slips and slides. Tommy Doherty's Porsche and John Cardoo's mini shook hands. But well done John you were able to finish the race and come in forth. Down the field there was a great battle going on between Dave Moloney Ken McAvoy Barry Smyth and myself. Wolfgang was so far ahead |I taught he was in class B.
You can check out the results on the web.
Mr. Vinnie O’Reilly graced us with his presence reports heard were that he was seen waltzing on the track. He had to go early and with a Royal Wave he parted rumour has it that he had a rendezvous with a certain lady named Lizzie.
Our next meeting will be the Classic Day in Mondello on the 19th June 2011.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
Also the Anglesey Event is on the 25th/26th June we need cars for the grid you can contact Alan Kessie for further details.
As an observation I would like to make drivers aware that whatever class you are competing in to be familiar with who you are competing against and be courteous and observant to all other classes as every one is competing for a place.
Kind regards
LIAM
