Race Report 24-04-2011

Hello to all HRCA members it is great to be back racing again. Our first race on Easter Sunday 23rd April lived up to all expectations. I arrived down on Sunday morning and the garage was all swept clean and race schedule up on the wall thanks to Andrea Mooney.

Bernard Foley’s big mussel v8 was having a front wheel bearing fitted which he cooked on the Saturday. He had great praise for Alan And Willie Kessie who stayed up late to rebuild the hub . I was talking to Jimmy Fulverton we were remising about the late Richie O'Sullivan and how he was such a good friend to all in the HRCA. Everyone in the club will miss him. I hope we did his family proud with the lap of honour and minutes silence in his memory just before the start of the race. May he rest in peace.

As I said earlier in the year I was going to try and do some kind of video of the races. I have some footage of the races and interviews with the drivers. Our roving camera man did a great job on the pit wall well done to Kevin Smyth and many thanks for all your help. So with the help of Kieran Hennessy you should be able to take a look on the website and admire yourself. Qualifying saw the usual big mussel cars up front with the exception of John Cardoo’s little mini, little or not he took pole position for the race. To bad he had clutch problems and was not able to race for the rest of the day. Down the field in class C it was neck and neck between Ken and myself for pole in the midgets. Ken was out in his newly acquired midget which certainly put a smile on his face. The first race saw the safety car out after a couple of spin offs at the sses in the end up at the front was Jackie Cochrane, Billy Crosbie, Bernard Foley and Clive Brandon

Down the field we had Liam Ruth, Ian Thornton and Ken McAvoy and in Class D we had Noel Kavanagh.

Dave Moloney had some problems and did not finish along with John Cardoo, Tommy Doherty, Leo Nulty and Alan Kessie. Don’t forget to check the web for the official results.

Our second race started after the lap of honour and the minutes silence for our pal Richie O' Sullivan.

I can only describe this as one on the best races I ever drove in. It started out very clean into Honda corner and from that to the end Ken Ian and myself swapped places almost at every corner at one stage we were three abreast down the pit straight heading for Honda corner and never touched one another. Well done lads for the courtesy and clean driving.

Thanks to Bernard and Tommy for a great race as well reports from the pit wall said it was neck and neck all the way. In the end I was lucky to get ahead of Ian to the chequered flag. Unfortunately Ken pushed the midget to the point of no return and had a spectacular spin well it looked good to me as I was behind him. Sorry I have not got much more about the rest of the race.

The results were Bernard Foley Tommy Doherty and Ed Cassidy

Class C Liam Ruth  Ian Thornton & Barry Smyth.

Well done Barry it was lovely to see the Mark 1 Escort being given a shake out on the track hope to see more of it.

All in all I think a good day was had by everyone.

Don't forget to check the website for the official results

Regards Liam
