San Goueno

The San Goueno event this year was my first but not my last.

Some 14 Irish drivers attended the event and some arrived the previous week from Pommerey.

Alan Kessie of Ask Racing loaded 8 cars into his truck and the rest towed their own.

Folks this was the best organised event I have ever attended. Nothing was left to chance. Electricity, water, showers & toilets all laid on as well as evening entertainment.

The hill was fast, the surface like a race track and with beautiful sunshine all week the scene was set for some serious fun.

Myself, Dermott Quigley and Vx O’Rielly had a great battle but with only 2 seconds between us Quigley, the hardened campaigner, took the honours. Vinney reckons because age is a big plus with the handy capper!!!

With the crowds at the event at almost 9000 and most of them cheering and waving Irish flags and being orcastrated on loud speaker by boldly locks McNulty and the beautiful Jenny, the hairpin was the place to be.

At the other end of the scale Kessie and McKinley where having a real battle with the 2 lunatics hitting the road in spots with some of the best driving I have ever seen.

However Simon McKinley took first place and the entertainment started at the prize giving. We had an Irish invasion of the stage with Alan Kessie, Swolen Nolan, Vx, The wolf O’Rielly, Johnny Mahon and Big Dick Bell all making guest appearances.

Later that night we all gathered around the Ask Racing truck for food, drink and entertainment with McNulty and D.J. Dermott Swollen Nolan.

Some of us had our wives, kids etc with us and it was a real family affair.

Alan has developed a special relationship with the French organisers and managed to get all the Irish invited to a special lunch on Monday f.o.c..

France 2010

Well done to everyone who attended and I am sure we will all be there in 2011.
