Classic Car Day 20th June 2010

There was a great turn out of cars for the Classic and Historic day at Mondello Park on 20th June. I would guess there could have been around 500 cars present. It was great to see all the cars drenched in beautiful sunshine as it was a dream day for an outing for these special cars. Many of the suites were used by major clubs for hospitality on the day. There were various stands with tools and bric a brac which drew great interest. I think this is the third year and it is growing year by year.

From a H.R.C.A.point of view it has been a great fun day

I want to thank Alan Kessey for all the work he put into organizing the day.

We all had a great days racing for 100euro. We  done Alan.

There were over 30 cars on the grid for the historic race.

The pre 55 race was one of the best races I have ever seen. Starting with a Le Mons start which was hilarious with young Kevin McBride away first of the group next year Kevin you are going to have to run from Naas to your car.

Ken McAvoy made a great start in his new Riley 12 beautiful car Ken nice to see it running well after its long trip to France. Frank Nutall had a spin in the first lap which brought out the red flag and a restart. Dave Miller just edged past Kevin and after that it was neck and neck over the entire race in fact I think there was some swapping of paint on the Honda corner. In the end the big mussle Lancia just piped the Jag at the flag. I was watching from the stands which was packed with spectators and there was a standing ovation . Well done lads you put on a great show very entertaining.

The Historic racing was no walk over with Matt Dune and Vinny X O’Reilly  having a great battle in the MG  mod sports midget  you can always rely on Vinny for an entertaining race. Memo to Alfie Cardoo Mondello are looking for their 50metre marker (poor little mini).

Wolfgang  and Dave Maloney had a great dice in the second race well done Dave

Wolfgang third gear is in the box somewhere.

Clive Brandon Noel Kavanagh and myself were dogged with trouble throughout the day.

Clive had battery trouble and Noel had a cracked head and I lost oil pressure (the joys of racing)

Pete Murray had gearbox trouble with his big mussle BMW.

Great to see so many single seaters out from the hill climbs hope so see them all again shortly.

Simon McKinley gave a spectacular display of car control for the spectators on the pit wall.

Thanks to Andrea for the refreshments throughout the day.

All in all it was one of the most enjoyable days in Mondello in a long time

Liam
