PRE 55 GROUP OF THE H R C A

NEWSLETTER NO 1

FEBRUARY 2011

1. GROUP MEETING.

David Millar called together a group of drivers in the Pre 55 Group of the HRCA on Sunday 27th February 2011 to discuss the season ahead and to agree a program of events to be supported by this Group.

2. 2011 PROGRAM.

The following Program was agreed for the 2011 season:

DATE

TYPE

LOCATION

COMMENTS

16th + 17th April 2011

HillClimb (2 events)

Galway

At least 5 cars committed to this fabulous hill

May 2011

(A specific date will be advised by Dave Miller in due course)

Race (1)

Kirkiston

David Millar will talk to Kirkiston about this event and will indicate at least 15 cars. This will be a chance to race with our counterparts in the North and then to ask them to reciprocate in the south later in the year.

19th June 2011

Classic Live Event (non championship)

Mondello

Dave Miller has guaranteed a grid of 15 cars for this event, and he explained that if we don’t turn up it will be the last (see item 3 below)

31st July 2011

Sprint (1)

Adare Manor

This is a new event and follows on from the 75th Limerick Grand Prix event last year. It is well worth attending

20th +21st August 2011

Hillclimb + Sprint (2)

Naul, MEC

This was a great venue last year

September 2011

Or below

HillClimb

N Ireland

Ken McAvoy will liaise with the UVCC to see if they have an event in this month that we can attend

3rd + 4th September 2011

9th October 2011

Hillclimb (2)

Race (1)

Donegal

Mondello

This may be an alternate to above to be decided

There is some uncertainty about this event and it will be greatly helped by a good turn out at Kirkiston and Classic Live. Dave Miller will monitor this event

3. TURN OUT FOR RACING.

Dave Miller stated that we had quite a bit of persuading to do to get John Morris to make space for us at Classic Live. We have guaranteed a grid of 15 cars and the following are now expected to turn out:

Kieran White

Stephen Brennan

John Keatley

Andy Johnson

Mark Kennedy

Leslie Murray

Nick Bennett

David Miller

Frank Harte

Tony Canny

Kevin McBride

Ken McAvoy

Edmund Cassidy

John Porter

Frank Nuttal

Detlief Heyer

David Quelly

This is a great “value for money day” and so should be attended by all. Entry Forms will be available soon and so everyone should send the form in early, as if John Morris does not get enough advance entries – he will pull the plug on us

4. CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS (Pre War + Pre 55)

The following was agreed for the 2011 Championship:

  • Results will count from 4 Hills and 2 Races
  • HRCA will arrange our own handicaps for our championships both for races and hillclimbs
  • Pre 55 and pre war cars in the hillclimbs will be running in Class 4 on the day and will separately be handicapped by MI for the Class 4 event on the day
  • Pre War cars will qualify for both Pre 55 and Pre War Trophies, but cannot win both

5. FUTURE EVENTS

Ed Cassidy (with assistance from Ken McAvoy) will try to organise a social evening before the season starts at which “The Iona Special” will be on display and a short talk about the car and its history will be given by Pearce Cahil
