Millard Trophy 2009

Alan Kessie

The Award is made to a competitor who makes a contribution to Motorsport outside of competition.

It is awarded in memory of Jimmy Millard. As well as being a competitor he was very active in organising events, particularly for the MG Car Club, of which he was a founder member.

Individuals are nominated by an affiliated club and the winner is chosen by a panel representing the various disciplines of the sport.

Alan Kessie is a very worthy winner of the award. He started competing in 1996, at first in racing and more recently in hillclimbs. He has always been ready to help his fellow competitors at an event. However his contribution in 2009 has been notable for two things. Race Committee under the leadership of Ann Stevens organised an “ Introduction to Motorsport Day” at Mondello and Alan put in much work to promote and help run the event, including supplying cars. Then in August, Alan again put his shoulder to the wheel and gave great support to the organising of the Phoenix Park. This is to omit his role in the memorable visit of 8 Irish competitors to a French hillclimb - ask about that over a drink !

Alan is a true example of what the Millard Trophy is intended to encourage.
